Will Grimm Appreciation Post (Brothers Grimm, 2005)

(or really, just a shameless, very late birthday post; really, it would have been on time had dreamwidth not given me endless posting issues, but I am stubborn and finally succeeded).

Third time's the charm for this film. I was terrified of it when it first came out, kinda liked it but kinda hated it too when I went back to it years later, and now many years later remembered it, re-watched it and fell head over heels. It's got pretty much everything I could ever want in a film and it's a total guilty pleasure.

Will (and Jake) are plagued by bad luck throughout the film, so here's some happy Will where he's in his element as the perfect, charming showman.

Notes: So I love everything about this film, but I probably love Wilhelm (Will) Grimm most of all. Okay, I definitely love Will Grimm most of all. I just love how narcissistic and skeptical and pompous he is; he's a con artist after all, so what would you expect? And yet I especially adore his protective side, how he's in denial for a lot of the film and also just how much of a showman he is. Plus, have I mentioned how absolutely gorgeous he is? His character development throughout the film is just stunning and completely unexpected and just really makes me excited to talk about films.

So Will starts out as this flat, abusive, asshole character until halfway through the film that whole idea is turned on its head and you realize that he has flaws and fears just like any other human. He's tormented by past trauma and is terrified of this magical world that shouldn't be real but is, and it's clear that he genuinely fears abandonment and losing his brother. He's this character that needs to be in control and to understand the world around him, and then he's thrown into a world he can't comprehend and can't wield to his own benefit and yet he still has the guts and the LOVE and self-control enough to believe in his brother and sacrifice himself for the greater good. If this isn't character development, then I don't know what is. If this isn't a completely well-rounded character, beautiful both inside and out, then I don't know what would be.

So, without further ado...

Here are a few icon-sized gifs where Will is going through a range of negative and stressful emotions: annoyance, worry, relief and desperation, just genuinely suffering and being in distress. Plus, there's him getting impaled on an enchanted blade by his own brother, which is very much distressing. Poor Will.

Reece is so perfect and precious and charming and badass and sassy, PROTECT this cinnamon roll at ALL costs. Wax already knows this, given how ridiculously protective of his Reese Cup he is during the course of the film, even like, five minutes after he meets Reece for the first time.

Can you tell how much I love this film? Huh, can you tell? This took so many hours, I will NEVER admit to how many hours.
