I don't think I'll ever get over The Terror series (season 1), which I watched back-to-back this month ('cause it is just THAT good) and which terrified, amazed, shocked, upset and humbled me. I watched it pretty much immediately after Chernobyl and am bowing down to worship at Jared Harris' feet for leading me onto two of the best series I have ever seen, and lucky for me I was able to watch them one right after the other.

The acting performances were outstanding, especially Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies and Paul Ready, and so many other actors I can't name, just absolutely fantastic performances. I also couldn't get over the brilliance of the music incorporated into several scenes: Blanky finding the Northwest Passage, Sir John's eulogy read by Crozier - these are the first two that come to mind and will not be forgotten.

I was absolutely blown away by the suspense and the emotion and how it ended up being more of a thriller than a horror, how it ended up being so much about the human stories instead of relying just on the monster, how it made you pity and feel for and connect with all the characters, or completely swapped your opinion of them on its head. It's also one of those shows that absolutely benefited by watching it the second time around, since there was so much I missed and I had so much more appreciation for each individual character and their journey and their sufferings (especially Goodsir!).

Plus, well, the ending absolutely wrecked me in some ways, and really satisfied me in others, but I'm absolutely not going there because I'm still recovering.

TV shows like this are one in a million, honestly, and it's given me hope that more will come soon enough.

And damn, now I need to nab a copy of the book by Dan Simmons.
