Film: Brothers Grimm (2005)
Song: Lifehouse's 'Sick Cycle Carousel' [Indie/Alternative Rock] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh3fl...)
Program: Shotcut

I love this song by Lifehouse and think that it fit the brothers' love/hate relationship really well. Initially, I meant to revolve the video around Jake, about how he's tried to suppress his beliefs and his imagination for Will's sake, not to mention forever lives in the shadow of his tragic childhood mistake and Will's constant reminder of that pain. But then I realized that it also really fits Will as well, since in the latter half of the film he's really trying to keep up with Jake while his own worldview is being shattered. In fact, Will gives up all rationality and control as he's sucked up into his brother's world, a world that he flat out admits terrifies him because he doesn't understand it (though also because nothing but grief and anger and betrayal has come of Jake's world prior to the events of the film).

So I guess this video really centers around Jake's frustration with living in Will's world, and then finally coming into his own once it's revealed that this other fantastical world isn't just in his head; and then also around Will coming to terms with accepting the past and finding a place in his brother's world and, ultimately, finding peace. It works out great when a song you choose ends up fitting both the characters, highlighting their shared and separate frustrations and disappointments and maybe even regrets. Overall, this movie is about the brothers: their arguments and out of control emotions and overlapping relationships and their sacrifices.

Thanks for watching!
